Become the leader you want to follow (5 steps to becoming your own Guru)

Have you ever struggled to understand what really works for you when it comes to self-development and growth? Do you sometimes feel like we an ever-growing list of gurus, manifestation experts, motivational speakers and more in the wellbeing space? Do you feel disappointed at times in yourself, because while they look like a shining success story, you look at yourself as a failure who just simply can’t move from A to B?

If you are still reading, then most likely the answer is yes to one or all of these questions. That’s alright, I have also been there, asking myself all these questions. What’s more, I have met many coaches and healers who are still living their daily lives fantasizing over the lives of their own role models.

There is nothing wrong with following others, and completing one self-development course after another, but:

  • You might want to focus on understanding and embracing who YOU are as a priority

  • You might end up always following, and maybe disappointed at a point (nobody is perfect)

  • In some cases, you might give away control over your thoughts and emotions to others (as a blindfolded follower)

  • Amidst all your studies and education, you might lose a significant number of opportunities to practice, to implement your knowledge in your daily life (i.e. walk the talk)

In this modern era, with a proliferation of micro-influencers, remember: YOU ARE THE PRIORITY. ALWAYS!

So if you feel it is too noisy in the world, then know that you are not connected to your heart and your inner peace, so shut out the noise and take a moment to practice gratitude for what you do have and where you currently are (1).

If there are too many things and you simply just can’t focus on one thing, remember that this road is leading to burnout, so start taking deep breaths and focus on your breath (i.e. the biggest gift you and I have) (2).

Every time you notice too many success stories around and start feeling disillusioned, turn back to yourself with an abundance of self-love, compassion and forgiveness (3). After all, you are the best person to live your own life. Nobody else can live your life for you.

When you are not sure what your life purpose is (such a big word), or what your values are another one), just remember that we are here on this planet to touch the hearts of others and leave some form of kindness behind. You are born to be that gift that is much desired, so it is high time to set some basic priorities while synergizing your mind, heart and soul (4).

Lastly, always keep in mind that your uniqueness is as significant as your similarities with others (5). Take a moment to read this paradoxical statement once again.

Wishing you a lovely day on your journey to becoming your own guru.
